If it’s July 12, it must be Delaware!
First, I will be signing my award-winning book, Threshold to ValleyForge: The Six Days of the Gulph Mills Encampment from 1 – 3pm at the Barnes and Noble, Concord Square , 4209 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE.
Second, I will be speaking at the American Revolution Roundtable of Northern Delaware at 7pm at the Hale Byrnes House, 606 Stanton-Christiana Road, Newark, DE.
In my book, I include information about how George Washington, on December 19, 1777, in two of his last letters from the Gulph Mills Encampment, informed important figures as to how the Continental Army would protect Wilmington, Delaware, where his spies told him that the British would soon move to occupy. Washington sent Brigadier General William Smallwood and his brigade to Wilmington for the winter, rather than canton them with the rest of the army at Valley Forge. He also sent a letter to George Reed, Delaware’s governor, informing him about the decision.
Come on out as I enjoy a day in our nation’s first state!
FYI—I had a great weekend in Philadelphia last week. On June 26, I picked up my award for Finalist, Regional Nonfiction, at the awards reception held by the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. It was so inspiring to be surrounded by so many award-winning authors and to hear tips and information from publishing professionals with so many years of experience.
On June 27, I had a book signing at the booth of my publisher, Brookline Books, at the American Library Association. It was great to meet the team in person. I signed and gave away two boxes of my book. I enjoyed meeting and talking with so many librarians who were interested in the American Revolution.
